Young Scot card? That’ll do nicely …

Young Scot Discount for Scotland’s Mobile Cinema

Young Scot cardholders across the Highlands and Islands can now enjoy discounted tickets when Scotland’s mobile cinema, Screen Machine, rolls into town.
Thanks to a new partnership between Regional Screen Scotland, the agency which operates the Screen Machine mobile cinema, and Young Scot, all young people aged 11 to 25 can enjoy the same £2 discount on the latest films and great independent cinema. This plugs the gap for those who were aged between 16 and 25, in employment, and who could not previously get a discount.

Screen Machine is an 80-seat, air conditioned mobile cinema which brings the latest films to remote and rural areas of Scotland including the Western Isles, Arran and North West Highlands. Screen Machine tours more than 40 communities in the Highlands and Western Islands and each tour lasts approximately 10 weeks. Screen Machine also appears at selected film festivals.

As well as the latest blockbusters like Captain America and Star Trek Beyond, Screen Machine shows award winning independent films and documentaries as part of its programme.

Robert Livingston, Director of Regional Screen Scotland, said:
“This partnership with Young Scot will help more young people across the communities of the Highlands and Islands enjoy a real cinema experience right on their doorstep. The Screen Machine mobile cinema has been visiting many of Scotland’s smallest and rural communities and has built up a huge following with many young people. We recognise that many work seasonally, or are on zero hours contracts or the living wage and so this will be a real benefit to them.”
Louise Macdonald, Chief Executive of Young Scot said,
“Screen Machine is a wonderful initiative bringing the joys of cinema to rural communities across Scotland. Going to the cinema is one of the most popular activities for young people and this discount will make easier and more affordable for young people living in rural locations to come together and have access to a wide range of exciting films.”
