In recent years, customers of Screen Machine have played a vital part in helping us raise funds to keep the service on the road. By responding to surveys, you’ve helped make our recent refit possible, and helped us show our main funder – Creative Scotland – how Screen Machine is valued and needed. Your feedback has also helped us to make the case for the importance of cinema to local communities everywhere in Scotland. The surveys we sent out in 2016 and 2017 attracted huge responses, with over 1,000 completed surveys each year. Now we’re very pleased to introduce our 2018 Screen Machine Audience Survey.

Since the last survey there’s been a big increase in our database of subscribers to the Screen Machine newsletter, so we’re hoping for an even bigger response this time.

In 2016 we concentrated on what audiences thought of the Screen Machine service, and in 2017 we turned the focus on you, our audience, and asked you to tell us (anonymously of course!) more about yourselves.

This year we want to find out more about how the Screen Machine can support local communities. We already do a great deal beyond our regular screenings of big movies:

  • Dementia events with Screen Memories Scotland
  • Special schools screenings, many with Into Film
  • Archive screenings with curator Shona Thomson
  • Special thematic programmes, like the current ‘Shore’ tour, focusing on Marine Protection Areas on the west coast
  • Bringing photography exhibitions, by working with Street Level Photoworks in Glasgow.

Also, we now organise more matinee screenings than we used to, and try to link them with local groups.

But we know we could do much more, and make the Screen Machine even more relevant to the widest possible audiences in the communities we visit.

So please help us by completing the survey (it shouldn’t take longer than 5 minutes) and, if you didn’t complete the 2017 survey, please also follow the link at the end of the survey as well (it will take rather longer—about 10 minutes).

Please also encourage everyone over 18 in your family to complete the survey: everyone will have their own reasons for why they do, or don’t, visit the Screen Machine!

You only need to provide contact details if you wish to be entered in the Prize Draw, and even then those contact details will only be used for that purpose. All information on the 2017 survey, which asks a number of more personal questions, is processed by the Social Value Lab in Glasgow and we only receive strictly anonymous results.

Our deadline is noon on Monday 8 October. Anyone who completes our 2018 survey, and provides their email address at the end, will be entered into a draw to win a £25 Amazon voucher.
