Screen Machine returns to Orkney

As part of its 15th anniversary celebrations, Screen Machine will return to the Orkney islands of Sanday, Stronsay, Westray and Hoy for the first time in over a decade from Friday 14 until Thursday 20 June.

Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby will receive its Screen Machine premiere on Sanday on Friday 14 June while other films will include Star Trek Into Darkness and The Croods.

A special screening of Life on Sanday, a 60-minute film made by local school pupils in 1977, will be screened on the island on Saturday 15 June.

Residents on each island are being invited to attend screenings of The Great Gatsby in their finest 1920s-style attire, with prizes for the best dressed cinema-goer.

A series of one-day film festivals, visits to new locations and an education pilot for rural schools are among other special events which will mark the 15th anniversary of Scotland’s only mobile cinema during 2013.

The week-long tour has been made possible due to funding from Creative Scotland’s Public Engagement programme and financial support from local organisations:

Pentland Ferries
Sanday Development Trust
Sanday Community Council
Sanday Community Association
Stronsay Community Council
Westray Community Council
