Wicked Little Letters

15

All is not well in the small English seaside town of Littlehampton. Somebody is sending obscene letters to its residents, including the conservative and proper Edith Swan. Suspicion immediately falls on Irishwoman Rose Gooding due to her habitually rowdy and foulmouthed ways.

Despite affirming her innocence, Rose is arrested and put on trial. If found guilty, Rose risks losing custody of her daughter as well as her freedom. While the police are confident they have their culprit, PC Gladys isn’t so sure. Moss believes Rose has been falsely accused, and sets about finding the real author of these wicked letters.

Based on a true story from the 1920s, this period black-comedy features hilariously comical turns from some of British cinema’s leading performers. Prepare your ears for the inundation of insults and swear words they volley at each from opening to closing credits. Stars Olivia Colman, Jessie Buckley and Timothy Spall.

Features frequent strong language.

“any time spent with actors as skilled as Colman and Buckley is time enjoyably spent” Empire

“A cosy, bumbling farce.” London Evening Standard

“Whether or not there’s a factual basis to the story, it’s undeniably an absolute blast.” Screen International

15: very strong language, strong sex references, controlling behaviour
