The Great Escaper

This touching drama features the final performances of screen heavyweights Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson.

Bernard Jordan and his wife Irene are quietly living out their twilight years in a British care home. When Bernard, a 90-year-old veteran of WWII, learns there is due to be a ceremony in France to honour the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, he’s told he cannot participate. But Bernard has other ideas. Urged on by Irene, he grabs his walker and sets out to cross the English Channel so he can honour those who died. As the care home realises he’s gone, the story of Bernard’s journey begins to spread, grabbing national and global attention.

Watch two cinematic icons draw the curtain on their careers in this heartwarming tale based on a true story, championing life and the connections we make with each other.

“A moving and surprisingly nuanced drama offering far more than flag-waving nostalgia. Superb performances from Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson” Empire

“There’s a real emotional heft to the storytelling and Caine, at 90, is a knockout” Observer
