The Banshees of Inisherin

Nominated for 10 BAFTAs and 9 Oscars for acting, writing, directing, film, and more.

On the island of Inisherin off the coast of Ireland, dairyman Pádraic (Farrell) is stunned when his supposed best friend Colm (Gleeson) abruptly ends their friendship. Entering his later years, Colm is a thoughtful and refined lover of music who has simply grown tired of Pádraic’s inane and annoying behaviour, something that Pádraic can’t understand. To drive the message home, Colm threatens to cut off his own fingers one at a time whenever Pádraic utters another word to him. But Pádraic can’t let this rest, leading to alarming consequences for both of them.

Written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Billing, Missouri), and set during the Irish Civil War, this black-comedy takes a closer look at male friendship and how emotionally ill-equipped some are when one wants to ‘break up’.

“Another great feel-bad treat from Martin McDonagh, featuring one of Colin Farrell’s best performances yet as a guy trying (and failing) to deal with the fallout of a falling out.” Empire

“an often shoulder-shudderingly funny film, whose comic dialogue is dazzlingly designed and performed.” Daily Telegraph

“A simple and diabolical tale of a friendship’s end shot through with bristling humor and sudden moments of startling violence.” Deadline Hollywood Daily
