Sully

12A
Drama surrounding the extraordinary real-life incident in 2009 when a US Airways pilot, Chesley Sullenberger, successfully landed his crippled passenger plane on the Hudson River after it hit a flock of birds, disabling the engines. The plane was then successfully evacuated with no casualties. Afterwards, Sully learns that one of the engines was still running on ̢idle power’ which could have enabled him to land at a nearby airport. Faced with the incident being deemed as a pilot error, which would have ended his career and damaged his reputation, Sully embarks on a court room battle to prove that he acted correctly and did not put his own ego ahead of the safety of his passengers. Eastwood may have embellished the story behind a 6 minute flight to create a film which is not entirely truthful, but we are still given a thrilling big-screen experience and a performance from Tom Hanks that may see him rewarded at Awards time. "a tale of quiet, unfussy heroism" Independent. "thrilling, heart-in-mouth stuff" Scotsman.
