Stop Making Sense

This re-release of Jonathan Demme’s 1984 film, featuring Talking Heads, brings a chance to marvel at the creative musical brilliance of Dumbarton born David Byrne.

Considered as the greatest concert film of all time, the live performance was shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983 and features Talking Heads’ best known songs including Once In A Lifetime, Psycho Killer, Slippery People, This Must Be the Place, and the show-stopping moment when Byrne enters the stage wearing his iconic ‘Big Suit’ for Girlfriend is Better. Whip thin and hyper-active, Byrne owns the stage and burns down the house with a supremely talented bunch of backing dancers and singers.

Jonathan Demme was a prolific director of many music related films and also features including Philadelphia and The Silence of the Lambs, which won him an Oscar for Best Director.

“The pleasure of the music is overpowering.” The Guardian *****

“And even now, how fresh it seems. For all the reverence and influence, how unique as well. The greatest concert movie ever made? Whether truth or fact, it is.” Financial Times *****
