Rye Lane

Spirited romantic comedy drama where two young people embark on a day-long flirtation, talking their way through their heartbreak.

Yas and Dom meet in the gender neutral loos of a London art gallery. Inconsolable after breaking up from his girlfriend, over the course of the coming day Dom pours his heart out to Yas, who is recovering from her own split. Sharing the ‘mess’ of their lives, they walk around South London, get to know each other, resolve issues with their exes, and let the chemistry between them build. Think Before Sunrise but with a bit of the cheek of Peep Show, and all set in Peckham.

When this film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, its director, Raine Allen Miller, had praise heaped upon her, for this – her first feature film. Rising stars Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson ooze charm as Yas and Dom. This is the unmissable rom com you didn’t know you needed to see.

“Will leave you with a smile on your face, a spring in your step and (hopefully) a renewed confidence in next-wave British film-making.” Observer

“There’s a cheeky nod to genre staple Love Actually, but this is a romcom that plays entirely by its own rules.” Radio Times

“Rye Lane is about a day that gets continuously better, if not funnier and more loving… What makes the film relatable is how achingly human it all is.” Rolling Stone

“Ridiculously charming, immensely funny, and shot with an unusual zestiness, Rye Lane is purely joyful company — and a shot in the arm for future romantic comedies.” Empire
