While on a trip to Czechoslovakia in 1938, English stockbroker Nicholas Winton sees first hand the perilous destitution of exiled Jewish families fleeing the Nazis. Shocked, he is compelled to act, and with the help of his resolute mother Babette, they begin the process of rescuing as many Jewish children as they can.
50 years later, the now-retired Nicholas comes across papers documenting the rescue. As he considers what to do with them, since they bear historical significance, Nicholas reveals he is guilty that he didn’t manage to save more. But as word of his actions spreads, he will see the true scale of his endeavours all those years ago.
Both Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn star as Nicholas in this uplifting true story about compassion and humanity sustaining during even the darkest of times. Helena Bonham Carter gives a striking performance as Nicholas’ unflinchingly determined mother Babette.
