Nobody Has to Know

Phil is a middle-aged Belgian farmhand on the Isle of Lewis who enjoys his time in the local pub and refusing to talk about his life back in Belgium. But when he suffers a stroke, he experiences amnesia and is unable to remember key details of his life.

Nursed back to health by Millie, a lonely local woman, she takes advantage of Phil’s fragile state to falsely claim they were once in a secret relationship. As they rekindle this past ‘romance’, Millie has never felt happier. But as the secrecy dogs Phil, Millie wonders what will happen if or when he recovers his memory.

Shot entirely across the Isle of Lewis, this romantic drama takes a quiet look at love, loss, and belonging. It is written and directed by renowned Belgian filmmaker Bouli Lanners after he was emotionally moved during a trip to Lewis.

“a hushed but warm-blooded love story with several unexpected twists” The Film Verdict

“Lanners confidently navigates a tale of guilty secrets, regrets and longing to deliver a quietly touching, unabashed weepie.” Screen International

“The vast vistas and windswept highlands of Scotland are as much a character as the humans” Stuff
