Next Goal Wins

12A

From director Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok) comes this uplifting comedy-drama based on a true story.

Michael Fassbender stars as football coach Thomas Rongen who is given a choice: be fired from his current position, or become head coach of the American Samoa national team, one of the lowest ranked football teams in the world. Rongen opts for the latter, taking control of a ragtag team that has never scored a goal, and is most well known for losing 31-0 to Australia.

When Rongen arrives, he finds the players are inexperienced amateurs juggling various jobs. But with the qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup approaching, he must adapt to the island way of life so can turn them from a disordered mishmash of inexperienced amateurs into an elite unit that can compete on the international stage.
