Academy Award-winner Joaquin Phoenix stars as the eponymous French conqueror in this historical drama from Ridley Scott.
During the French Revolution, young military officer Napoleon Bonaparte rises swiftly through the ranks to become an influential figure in French society. A unique individual, Napoleon’s military genius results in victories against royalists and neighbouring nations, making him a national hero.
Despite his distaste for the monarchy, his heart falls for the aristocratic Joséphine de Beaharnais, but the two endure a tumultuous relationship. With her at his side, Napoleon cements his power and declares himself Emperor of the French and Joséphine as his Empress. But as his ambition grows across the borders of Europe, enemies muster to end his reign.
Academy Award-nominee Vanessa Kirby stars as Joséphine alongside Phoenix. Both give strong performances in this biopic about their complicated marriage and its effects on one of history’s greatest military leaders.
