Moana Waialiki is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. She’s being raised to lead, but she’d rather embark on a few sea-faring adventures. When her island’s fishermen can’t catch any fish and the crops fail, she learns that the demigod Maui caused the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade Maui to return Te Fiti’s heart, so Moana sets off on an epic journey across the Pacific. 16-year-old Moana is beautifully voiced by Hawaiian newcomer Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson seems born to voice the egomaniac demigod Maui. With a strong lead female character, thrilling story-line, joyous songs and heart-swelling messages of respect and hope for the future, Moana is a strong contender for the Best Animated Oscar. "A crowd-pleasing oceanic musical with big tunes and beguiling characters" Empire. "brimming over with spectacle and visual inventiveness" Telegraph. PG: Contains mild threat.
