Synopsis

In the high-stakes world of political power-brokers, Elizabeth Sloane is the most sought after and formidable lobbyist in D.C. She angers her boss when she turns down a job to represent a gun manufacturer hungry to expand its market – it doesn’t seem to represent enough of a challenge for the driven Miss Sloane. So she quits and instead works for a firm representing a group which is backing a proposed law to introduce stricter firearm controls.

This is very different to the kind of film made previously by director John Madden (e.g. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Shakespeare in Love) – it’s a tense, political thriller, with Jessica Chastain totally owning the lead character – a hard-nosed – verging on rude – boss who has colleagues quivering. An intelligent, tense thriller with a court-room climax.

“Chastain draws us in, making us see what her lobbyist character keeps inside by the sheer force of her fireball performance.” Rolling Stone

“A talky, tense political thriller, full of verbal sparring and fiery monologues…” Variety

“Jessica Chastain is bulletproof in a frothy soap opera about the other women in Washington.” IndieWire
