HULA

15
Hula is a gently humorous drama about unhappy divorcee Clara. Reluctant to engage within her Highland community, she sets up her empty-nest home as a B&B. Her first guest is an artist who introduces her to change by rearranging the bedroom feng shui style. Next, a pair of elderly tourists painfully remind her of the joys of love. Finally a hillwalker, as lonely as she is but not nearly so stuck, initiates an evening of unexpected hilarity which spurs her onwards to a new, ultimately more promising phase in her life. Hula won Best Drama at this year’s BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards and recently premiered to a sell-out screening at XpoNorth, Scotland’s leading creative industries festival. Our screening is only the film’s second public screening. Hula is directed by Dornie based filmmaker Robin Haig and features local girls as the Five Sisters of Kintail. Robin attracted actress Blythe Duff to play the lead role by handing her the script after watching her in a play at the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow. Hula will be preceded by a selection of short films programmed by Way Out West Picturehouse..
