Hope Gap

12A
From William Nicholson (writer of Gladiator and Les Misérables) comes this drama adapted from his own play The Retreat from Moscow. Annette Bening and Bill Nighy play Grace and Edward, a couple who have been married for almost thirty years. They live in the south of England and enjoy all the comforts of life, but there is an underlying tension to everything. When their son Josh comes to visit, Edward announces that he’s leaving Grace, leading to a fallout of emotions, and for Josh to pick up the pieces. This film offers a powerful portrayal of a marriage slowly coming to its end, with Bening and Nighy in stellar form as two people trying to navigate their lives. “considerably more nuanced and mature than your typical relationship drama” Variety “Annette Bening and Bill Nighy are terrific as a middle-aged couple who have everything – except a happy relationship” The Guardian “Annette Bening anchors a tale of divorce by the seaside” The Independent 12A: infrequent strong language, suicide references
