Green Book

Green Book tells the story of a renowned classical pianist, Dr Don Shirley, who hires Italian-American Tony Lip as his driver/bouncer when he embarks on a concert tour of the Deep South. Set in the 1960s, they must rely on the Green Book as a guide to the few establishments which are safe for African Americans to stay in and give tips on how to avoid trouble. Confronted by racism and danger wherever they go, they are forced to set aside their differences and find friendship to survive the journey of a lifetime. With fantastic performances from the whole cast – Mahershala Ali’s Oscar winning performance in particular – this is an entertaining and enjoyable odd couple road trip movie. “Strong performances from Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali highlight a broadly entertaining crowd-pleaser about racial division in the 1960s” The Guardian “It is certainly a heartfelt, possibly an accurate portrayal of a wonderful, life-affirming friendship.” The List 12A: contains infrequent strong language, moderate violence, discriminatory behaviour
