FREE SCREENING: LUX – Urok (The Lesson)

This film, set in a small Bulgarian town, tells the story of Nadezhda, a young teacher, who wants to teach a pupil in her class a lesson about right and wrong. But when she gets into debt to loan sharks, can she find the right way out? This moral tale considers what it takes to turn a decent human being into a criminal.The Lesson is one of several films in the running for the LUX Prize. In Latin ‘Lux’ means light, and since 1997 the European Parliament’s Lux Prize has been casting an annual spotlight on films that cut to the heart of European public debate. The films competing for the Lux Prize help to air different views on some of the main social and political issues of the day. 2014’s winner was Polish film, Ida, which went on to win an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.The Lesson has been collecting awards ands accolades at film festivals around the world, from San Sebastian to Tokyo, since its release in 2014.Tickets are free – you can book on line (50p per ticket booking charge still applies) or go along to the Screen Machine on the day."A gripping drama" Variety.

Please note that we offer refunds only if we are forced to cancel a screening – perhaps due to very bad weather or a mechanical problem. If you book tickets, and then fall ill, we will not offer a refund and recommend that you pass your tickets on to friends or family.

Concessions are available for: 15-and-under, 16 to 25, Students, 60 and over, Disabled and Claimants.

All under 14 year olds must be accompanied by a parent or 21+ year old guardian at screenings starting after 8:00pm.

Any remaining tickets not sold online are made available on the door 30 mins prior to performance, on a first come first served basis.
