Emma.

This stylish remake of Jane Austen’s classic is the feature directorial debut of fashion photographer Autumn de Wilde, with a script penned by Booker Prize-winning novelist Eleanor Catton. Emma Woodhouse is the unrivalled social queen bee of her small town. Handsome, clever, and rich, she spends her restless days acting as a meddling cupid in the love lives of her friends and family, often blind to her actions and their effects. But all of this is a distraction from her own love life, which is pocketed with poor mismatches and missteps. The answer, however, might lie closer than she expects. This comedy-drama offers hilarious moments and a few near-slapstick gags while retaining the cutting wit of Austen’s satire about social class and the difficulties of growing up. Ultimately, it highlights the many obstacles we must face as we try to find our equal and earn a happy life. “Anya Taylor-Joy creates an admirably spiky character” Mark Kermode, the Observer “a decadent, fondant-swaddled delight” The Independent “Strikes just the right balance of modern and authentic” Time Magazine U: brief natural nudity
