Director: Terence Davies
Cast: Jack Lowden, Harry Lawtey, Jeremy Irvine, Peter Capaldi
Biographical drama about the life of celebrated war poet Siegfried Sassoon.
Driven by patriotic duty, Sassoon enlists to fight in the trenches of World War One. But after he’s awarded the Military Cross for bravery, he becomes one of the conflict’s biggest opponents. Rather than have him court martialed, the brass send Sassoon to a psychiatric hospital in Edinburgh. Following the war, he pursues relationships with both men and women in a heartfelt search for companionship. Years later, he turns to Catholicism for salvation, still haunted by the horrors of war.
Scottish actors Jack Lowden and Peter Capaldi star as Sassoon during different periods of his life, putting in strong performances of a man trying to find peace and self-acceptance in a fractured world.
