Asteroid City

12A

Wes Anderson returns to immaculate form in this sci-fi homage which is a dazzling visual delight. A recently bereaved family hole up in a desert backwater, Asteroid City,  in this surreal and whimsical tale.

It’s 1955 and the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organised to bring together students and parents from across the US for fellowship and scholarly competition) is set to take place in Asteroid City. But the itinerary is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

Critics have hailed Asteroid City as Anderson’s best since Grand Budapest Hotel, almost ten years ago.

“guaranteed to delight devout Wes-heads” Financial Time

“Asteroid City’s eccentricity, its elegance, its gaiety, and its sheer profusion of detail within the tableau frame make it such a pleasure. So, too, does its dapper styling of classic American pop culture.” Guardian

“visually arresting but with a grounded, charming, and considered script that confronts themes of parenthood and grief, as well as the transporting power of both stargazing and daydreaming. It is an easy film to love.” Vogue
