Regional Screen Scotland and Street Level Photoworks are delighted to present our latest collaboration – Shadowplay. Since 2016 we have been working together to bring to Screen Machine audiences Street Level’s exhibitions of contemporary photography.

Shadowplay is a journey of resilience and creativity, undertaken by visually impaired artist, Robert H. King, which reflects on questions around how one continues with their photographic art practice, as well as navigating an uncertain future, the discomfort and searing light that his condition creates.

This digital short serves as a form of creative activism and advocacy, challenging misconceptions about visual impairment in the creative industries. It’s not solely about sight loss, but about exploring identity and pushing the boundaries of self-portraiture. Shadowplay is a 7 minute short and we will screen it prior to each screening of Lee (a biographical drama about photographer Lee Miller) between 14 November and the end of the year.

Produced by Street Level Photoworks through its Culture Collective programme, Shadowplay is presented as part of Photography on Screen – an ongoing partnership. These have become a regular part of the Screen Machine programme and represent an innovative method of bringing exhibitions to audiences via a mobile cinema.
