- From truck to cinema – First the power cord is attached and the trailer is leveled relative to the car park. The sides of the trailer rise up to form the roof. The side walls then slide out horizontally on outrigger legs. While this is deploying, the entire interior floor section, with the seats bolted to it, is deploying inside. The interior walls are then moved manually to form the projection room and the entrance lobby. Once this is deployed the cinema is nearly ready. All these movements are powered by hydraulic rams, steel wires and pulleys. Then the access ramps and steps are fitted. The box office computer and ticket printer is then set-up, the film is laced round the projector. Finally the driver/operator has a wash, a change of clothes, a bite to eat and the show can begin.

- Power – the Screen Machine is powered by a 40kVa diesel powered generator housed within a sound deadening box behind the cab on the tractor unit. It generates 415v of 3 phase power to run the projector, air conditioning, the lighting, the hydraulics and everything else that requires electricity.
- What can stop it from working? - Weather conditions can stop the Screen Machine operating. We cannot set-up the cinema in winds above 35mph and once in cinema mode we evacuate the audience when the wind starts to gust above 65mph.
|
- Where can it operate? - Almost anywhere where you can drive an articulated lorry. Ideally we like 20m x15m of flat hard standing, with a publicly accessible toilet nearby. (No on-board toilet). Low bridges, hump back bridges, very twisty single track roads and badly parked cars can also cause us problems.
- What’s it made of? - A custom steel chassis, a steel and aluminum framework clad with glass reinforced plastic and wood (for the floor of the auditorium). The interior is completely carpeted and flame retardant.
