With his life on Earth not working out, Mickey Barnes signs up to be an ‘expendable’ on a colony planet. In the name of human progress, Mickey is sent on perilous tasks with little to no chance of survival, and a new version of him is regenerated whenever he inevitably dies.

But problems arise when Mickey’s 17th iteration is incorrectly marked dead and he returns to find his 18th iteration sleeping in his bed. According to colony rules, two expendables cannot co-exist and both must be killed. Faced with permanent death, both Mickeys must come to terms with their lives as expendables, which leads to a showdown with the colony’s oppressive leaders.

From Bong Joon-ho, the acclaimed writer-director of Parasite, comes this darkly humorous sci-fi comedy about what it means to be human, and the costs and sacrifices we are asked to make in the name of progress.

“Pattinson could easily call comedy his true calling, here delivering an elastic physical performance as dexterous as Jim Carrey in his prime” TheWrap

“a big, strange spectacle that’s unlike most blockbuster cinema out there” Time Out

“visually spectacular with some very sharp, angular moments of pathos and horror” The Observer

“A charming space oddity for these unusual times.” Empire
