Grace and Jackson are a young and expectant couple who move from the bustle of New York to the beautifully bucolic Montana. Shortly after they arrive, Grace gives birth, and they begin their life in their rural surroundings.
But with Jackson often travelling for work, Grace begins to feel disconnected from him and her life. Despite her ambitions to be a writer, boredom and loneliness creep in, along with fears Jackson is cheating on her. Feeling alone and unloved, Grace starts to lose her grip on reality, sending her down a path of erratic behaviour that will forever change their relationship.
Acclaimed Scottish director Lynne Ramsay helms this taut psychological thriller based on Ariana Harwicz’s novel about postpartum depression, featuring Jennifer Lawrence in what many critics are calling one of the best performances of her career.
“There’s plenty to admire in Ramsay’s uncompromising and delirious portrait of marital hell, particularly in the bracingly raw performance of Lawrence” Associated Press
“Lynne Ramsay’s raw and animalistic character study proves to be the perfect vehicle for Jennifer Lawrence” Empire
“a fearsome, all-consuming spell of a film, and its effects are unshakeable” The Independent
