28 years after the rage virus overran society in Britain, a small community of survivors lives on a heavily fortified tidal island off the coast of England. As part of a coming-of-age ritual, community member Jamie takes his son Spike to the mainland, where they have a close call with the infected.

During the foray, Spike spots a fire burning in the distance and learns it was lit by the enigmatic and sinister Dr Kelson. Isla, Spike’s mother and pregnant with her and Jamie’s next child, is suffering from an unknown illness. With little treatment on the island, Spike and Isla return to the mainland in search of the mysterious doctor, hoping to save the lives of both her and her unborn child.

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland return to the franchise they successfully launched with 28 Days Later with this gripping thriller about isolation and survival. It embraces the rural setting of its story, with some scenes set in the Highlands.

“It glows with Boyle’s visual flair, Garland’s ambitious screenplay and a towering performance from Ralph Fiennes.” BBC
