Description:

The Papa Stour History Group was set up in 2003 to record and preserve the history and archaeology of Papa Stour. It is a properly constituted organization. Membership is free and open to anyone,in and outwith Shetland, who has an interest in, and or a connection with, Papa Stour. Meetings are held in Papa Stour and on the mainland of Shetland. For 2005 and 2006 the History Group produced calendars using old black and white photographs depicting life in the island as it used to be. After exterrnal and internal remedial repair work the 200 year old Papa Stour Kirk was re-opened to the public in September. The occasion was marked with a service of rededication attended by folk as far away as Bigton in the south of Shetland. The History Group is now looking at the possibility of installing electricity in the Kirk with a view to setting up an interpretative centre to the rear of the building. The Group is hoping to create its own website and would welcome suggestions and contributions. The main contact for the Papa Stour History Group is the secretary Mrs Jane Puckey who can be contacted via e-mail; janepuckey@hotmail.com
