Mojo Walks bass player and owner of Hidden Gem in Ullapool, Keith Witham has died after battle with cancer.
Keith leaves a wife and young daughter, our deepest sympathies go out to them and the rest of his family at this time.
Keith was a long time music fan, player and worker. As a fan he loved everything from Manchester Baggy Rock to Hebridean Folk. As a player he held down the bass for (and was band leader and founder of) anarchic blues rockers Mojo Walk. As a tireless music worker he promoted gigs, recorded bands on his home studio, reviewed gigs for magazine like Mojo and Living Tradition, and kept the west coast community serviced with the latest sounds (and second hand records) through Hidden Gem his part Record Shop part tourist arts and crafts gallery, a destination for all music fans in the area. Always we'd find him behind the counter with a cheery smile, listening to a new record you should be thinking of adding to your collection. In later years Hidden Gem embraced the internet, Keith being amongst the first to explore the potential of selling music on the web.
He was first and foremost a family man.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and Ullapool will be devastated coming as close as this does to the recent shore line tragic accident that claimed the life of Charlie his partner in rhythm.
There is a band is forming in blues heaven.
Keith's funeral is 2pm at the Royal Hotel Ullapool Thursday 21 April.
Rob Ellen has opened up a condolence book at Mojo Walks ness site, if you would like to relate your thoughts
