WildbirdyouthCast, in partnership, with The Warehouse Theatre are offering a unique opportunity for youngsters aged 12 - 17 who are passionate about drama and contemporary theatre.
Wildbird are looking for 15 highly motivated and committed young actors and 6 aspiring technicians to join our youthCast. This new initiative is part of our commitment to developing exciting contemporary theatre in the community that feeds directly into our professional productions.
We are currently developing ‘The Fall of the Peacock Throne’ for professional production in the autumn. This tells the story of the 1953 CIA/ MI6 overthrow of Iran’s democratic government which sowed the seeds of anti western middle east terror and global oil conflict. As the next stage in the creation of the piece we will be looking at events in 1953 through the eyes of children and young people, drawing inspiration from Margane Satrapi’s graphic novel ‘Persepolis- The story of a Childhood’ , to create a dynamic new contemporary performance piece.
Actors will have the opportunity to develop their skills and experience in a challenging laboratory environment working with both physical performance and script, whilst technicians will cover sound and lighting design, theatre design and video production as well as basic stage management skills.
The youthCast will meet initially for three Mondays starting on the 3rd of March from 4.30 - 6.00 in the Warehouse Theatre Lossiemouth, with a two day intensive rehearsal on 10th and 11th of April. There will be a public performance on Friday 11th April at 7.30. The cost of each Monday session will be £12.00 and each intensive day will be charged as equivalent to two sessions at £24.00 per day.
The project will be led By Wildbird’s Artistic Director Chris Lee. Chris’s most recent work includes National Theatre of Scotland’s ‘Elgin Macbeth’ and ‘Crucible’ projects as well as ‘Peacekeeper’, ‘King Lear- Bare Forked Animal’ and ‘The Fall of the Peacock Throne’ for Wildbird. Chris was short listed for the Arches Award for Stage directors 2008, and ‘The Better Bankside Shakespeare Award 2007 at Southwark Playhouse. He also Co-founded and chaired Promote YT (Scotland), the national network and development organisation for youth theatre in Scotland and remained on the board until 2007.
