The Watermill Gallery, Aberfeldy is pleased to be holding an exhibition by Perthshire artist Malize McBride, from 1 March – 8 April 2008.
Australia is the focus for McBride’s new body of work. Travelling by road and rail made her appreciate the grandeur and vastness of the country, which made the strongest impression on her visually.
She principally works in oil and watercolour, her recent work also uses monoprint techniques which suits her more abstract approach to landscapes. Her work evokes a vast, arid, scorched feel with the predominance of earthy reds, browns and ochre’s.
“Wide, open landscapes with no overt human presence are what appeal to me most: the almost deserted expanses of Central Australia. It is this ‘Red Centre’ of Australia that is the inspiration for this exhibition,” explains Malize.
“Malize’s near sell-out 2006 exhibition, ‘Antarctica’ at the Watermill Gallery managed to capture depth and variety out of the seemingly blue and white of the Antarctic ice. She has once again achieved a rich variety this time, out of the predominant reds and ochre’s of the Australian hinterland.”
