Following the huge success of the ‘Stories from the Straths Exhibition’ in Strathy last week, Essie and the team will be setting up camp in Lochinver next week. Visitors’ comments on the Strathy Exhibition and events included –‘magnificent’, ‘imaginative and atmospheric’ and ‘visually inspiring’. This is one not to be missed and demand to take this exhibition on tour beyond north west Sutherland is fast emerging.
This exciting exhibition showcases work by digital artist Gavin Lockhart, art student Catrina Millar, visual artist Meg Telfer, photographer, Mike Roper and tinsmith, Arthur Dutch. A new Gaelic song – ‘Samhradh anns na srathan’ has been written by Aonghas Macneacail and a new English song ‘Will You Walk With Me?’ has been written by Andrew (‘Singing’) Mackenzie.
Carol-Anne Mackay of Dòchas has written a new march – ‘March O’er the Moine’ and Catriona MacLeod has crafted the tune ‘Dol a thrusadh’ in honour of this journey.
Next week’s finale will see these new tunes and songs performed in Lochinver Hall. The evening will be rounded off with some serious dancing to the music of Pipedown, described by the French ‘Trad Mag’ as offering ‘a well crafted sound, original musical arrangements and a full-on dynamism’. From this project ‘full-on dynamism’ is only to be expected!
