'Tartan with a Twist' Demonstrates Words of Wisdom
29 November 2007

'Whiteadder Weavers', a group of professional tartan weavers, are holding a festive exhibition and sale this weekend (1st & 2nd December), allowing the public to see a traditional weaving demonstration on an enormous Harris loom and discover the work that goes into making our national tartans.

The event, 'Tartan with a Twist', in aid of Save the Children, will be held at 'Criston', in Lanton, Jedburgh and will showcase the art of traditional weaving.

The weaver's handwoven goods will also be on sale and mulled wine and home-made mince pies are available for everyone who attends. Admission is £3 and all proceeds will be donated to Save the Children.

Pru Jeffery, one of the six 'Whiteadder Weavers' said:
"Tartan weaving is a true art and most Scots will never have seen the work that goes into making our traditional cloth. We are keen to see the tradition kept alive and we're really excited about demonstrating the loom to visitors this weekend. We hope people will turn up, earn more and enjoy some festive delights, as well as supporting Save the Children".
