Seaboard Storytelling Weekend

A weekend (Friday 7 & Saturday  8 Dec 2007) in the atmospheric setting of the Seaboard Villages, celebrating the Norse, Gaelic, Pictish and Traveller traditions of Easter Ross - in Story, Music and Song.

Friday 7th December.
Return of the Vikings
Tom Muir (Orkney), Lawrence Tulloch (Shetland), Bill Taylor (Ross-shire).
In the enchanting setting of Nigg Old Church, two great favourites from the Ross-shire Tales at Martinmas Storytelling Festival take us to the magical world of the Norse folk. Music from harper Bill Taylor celebrates the Pictish heritage of the Nigg stone, housed in the church, which portrays the first ever image of the modern European harp.
Nigg Old Church, Nigg village. 7.30pm - 9.00pm. £4/£3. Family ticket (two adults and children) £10/£8. Mince pies, tea and coffee included in ticket price.

Saturday 8th December.
Family Fun
Janet MacInnes, Christina Stewart, Bob Pegg.
Stories, songs, and some of the strangest musical instruments you’ve ever seen. For all ages.
2.00pm - 3.00pm.

The Road to Balintore
Essie Stewart (Sutherland), Alec Williamson (Ross-shire).
Alec and Essie, both key figures in The Summer Walkers, Timothy Neat’s landmark book about Highland Travellers, and both native Gaelic speakers, reminisce about life on the road and tell some of the old stories they first heard around the campfire.
3.15pm - 4.15pm.

The Sea Road
Lawrence Tulloch, Tom Muir.
By the shores of the Moray Firth - tales with a nautical theme, tall, dramatic and
humorous, from the two master storytellers of the Northern Isles.
4.45pm - 5.45pm.

High Tea with Dolly
An informal session with the doyenne of Seaboard storytelling Dolly MacDonald. A cup of tea, cakes and sandwiches, and a tale or two. Free of charge, including refreshments.
6.00pm onwards.

Storytelling Ceilidh
Join all the festival artists for an evening of stories, songs and music.
7.30pm - 10pm.

All Saturday events held in the Seaboard Memorial Hall, Balintore.
Individual Saturday events £3/£2. Day ticket £8/£6. Family day ticket (two adults and children) £20/£16. All events Friday and Saturday pay on the door, or book through www.thebooth.co.uk
