Inchmore Gallery continues to forge ahead with its invigorating program of promoting original and collectable art and artists in the Highlands.
From the next change over of work you can visit the gallery and experience the latest feast of original painting, ceramic, sculptor, glass and textile art.
But not content with a growing reputation of showing some of the most stimulating and fresh art in the north of Scotland, there is also an “Art in a Box” exhibition (featuring some of Scotland’s best known, leading artists) and a budding artists opportunity to produce your own hand printed art.
“Art in a Box” is the latest exciting twist to original art brought to the area by the gallery and is an exhibition of art works made to be shown using a CD case as a frame.
The CD sized works are fitted into CD cases and wall mounted, forming a “collage” of images. This method of showing work gives added fun to viewing art and makes a great spectacle itself. The type of art displayed in each case is diverse - in that the invited artists are skilled in various mediums. The resulting exhibited works take the form of painting, printmaking, textiles, metal work and even - if they arrive at the gallery safely! - ceramics.
The contributing artists are at varying stages of their art career, from the emerging to the established and from the self taught to the academic. Their CVs make excellent reading - endorsements of RSA, RWA, MA, and BA are heavily featured – with the Art Schools of our major cities well represented.
With this exhibition, not only does the gallery visitor have the opportunity of a visual treat but there is an additional attraction for the artists themselves. The gallery has sponsored two awards for the show thus giving an opportunity to be chosen as the Best Emerging and Best Established Artist from the exhibition.
The Emerging Artist will be selected by Paisley born, writer and artist John Byrne, whose name is synonymous with Scotland’s contribution to the visual arts. With a career background spanning experiences such as working as a paint mixer in a Paisley carpet factory to writing the cult television series 'Tutti Frutti' - and still managing time to fulfill a vocation as an artist - John Byrne is well qualified to identify up-and-coming talent.
The - then unenviable - task of choosing from the Established Artist’s field is given to Artist and Art Tutor Dean Melville. Dean is presently part of an invigorating exhibitions team, curating at the Inverness Art Gallery and other Highland venues.
The gallery is keen to encourage visitors, friends and families to join in with the CD art theme and on Sunday the 25th November a “Print in a Box Event” will be held in the Squashed Frog Studio. The fully fitted artists and print studio is part of the unique layout of the gallery, where visitors and their families will have an opportunity to produce their own piece of work to take home in a box.
The Christmas Exhibition and CD “Art in a Box” events start on Saturday the 24th of November. Inchmore Gallery is 6 miles west of Inverness on the Beauly A862 road. Opening times 10am – 5pm daily, 11am – 5pm Sunday; closed Tuesdays.
