Ones, Twos and Threes
30 October 2007

Local singing group, voiceworks is offering something for all music lovers at their forthcoming concerts on 9th and 10th November.

The title of this season’s concerts is ‘Ones, Twos and Threes’ and the programme comprises an interesting mix of solos, duets and trios drawn from the worlds of musical theatre and opera.

Popular songs, such as Henry Mancini’s Moon River, Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend and the Kurt Weill/Bertolt Brecht classic, Mack the Knife are interspersed with less well-known songs from shows, such as Street Scene by Kurt Weill and The Ballad of Baby Doe by Douglas Moore. Gilbert and Sullivan make an appearance, as will voiceworks recently formed Girls’ Vocal Group who will be singing songs from The Sound of Music and Annie.

For opera lovers, Elaine Shearer will give a display of bel canto singing in Donizetti’s In luce di quest anima. The Soldier’s Chorus from Il Trovatore is paired with Leonora’s great aria and cabaletta Tacea la notte e placida, sung by the very talented Liz McLardy. More Verdi is featured by the young coloratura soprano Kathleen Cronie in the Page’s second aria from Un ballo in maschera, and the first half closes with the Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen, with Caroline Warburton as opera’s most famous femme fatale...

The concerts will be performed at Culloden Academy (Friday 9th November) and Invergordon Academy (Saturday 10th November). Both concerts start at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 (including refreshments) and can be purchased in person, by telephone from Off The Peg, High Street, Dingwall (01349 863 521) or by email (voiceworksscotland@yahoo.co.uk)

Voiceworks performs two concert series each year, in summer and autumn as well as their popular concert at Dunrobin Castle in the spring.
