Shooglenifty Tune Up Tour November 2007
24 October 2007

Shooglenifty will be touring Scotland this November as part of the Scottish Arts Council Tune Up Tour with the North American Inuit throat singer Tanya Tagaq Gillis. They will be appearing at Glenuig Hall, (www.glenuig.org.uk ) Glenuig, by Lochailort on Saturday 17th November, doors open 9:00pm.

All tickets £12, available now online at the Booth www.thebooth.co.uk and from Glenuig Inn, Lochailort Inn, Acharacle Shop & Post Office, Strontian Shop, the Granite House (Fort William) and by post from Glenuig Hall

For more than a decade Shooglenifty’s signature combination of traditional style fiddle and mandolin melodies, urgent rhythmical propulsion and cohesive ensemble grooving, have been provoking dance floor activity around the world. They launched their fifth studio album “Troots” to wide acclaim at the Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow in January 2007.

Shooglenifty have toured extensively this year, including a Canadian tour in the Spring, a summer filled with International music festivals including the Rainforest Festival in Sarawak, Indonesia and Womad in Singapore to UK festival dates including the Outsider Festival and Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Shooglenifty first met Tanya Tagaq Gillis in the Canadian Yukon territory, where they were thrown together during a workshop at the Yellowknife Folk Festival. They were reunited at the Salmon Arm Festival in the Canadian Rockies, Tanya’s otherworldly vocals melding uniquely with the bands rhythmic and melodic textures. Tanya’s vocals appear on the track “Excess Baggage” on the album “Troots”, and she performed with the band at the albums launch at Celtic Connections.

Tanya Tagaq Gillis, who has performed with Bjork and the Kronos
Quartet, brings her thrilling improvisational ability and haunting vocal
tone to this Tune Up tour with Shooglenifty.

Tune Up is an initiative of the Scottish Arts Council to support music touring in Scotland.

The album is distributed by Proper Music www.properdistribution.com , Highlander Music, and available online at www.shoogle.com . Shooglerecords received funding from the Scottish Arts Council for the recording of this album.
