Looking to the future
13 September 2007

Once again An Tuireann has been bustling away with thought-provoking exhibitions, exciting events and the prospect of a new building.  Read on for more details......

Firstly, next Wednesday, 19th September, they are working with the Samaritan's Correspondence Branch to host a creative writing workshop at the centre for young people. The day will be facilitated by Julian Colton - a poet, storyteller and fiction writer. His poetry has appeared in publications as varied as The Rialto, My Mum's A Punk, Orbis, Envoi and The Eildon Tree, which he co edits. He teaches poetry at Borders College, is a literary events coordinator and is currently writer-in-residence at Galashiels Academy.

Participants will be encouraged to think about feelings and the benefits of expressing themselves in verse. They will also look at letter writing and the Samaritan's service. The day begins at 10am and if you are 17-20ish and would like to be invlolved please email Frances Simpson on francesjsimpson@hotmail.com

An Tuireann would also like to let you know about their fantastic new poetry resource box - a box of ideas for readers and writers. It contains ideas sheets; reading guides; and lists of reading recommendations.

The Poetry Resource Box has been kindly donated by the Scottish Poetry Library and complements An Tuireann's outreach collection of poetry books. You can download the latest version of the printed material by visiting the SPL web site at http://www.splreadingroom.org.uk

The Arts Centre has been given the chance to purchase and develop the Black Memorial Hall in Portree town centre. This is not only a fantastic opportunity for An Tuireann, but for the people of Portree also. The Venue's board is currently working on a proposal to take this idea forward. If you would like to know more, please visit An Tuireann's website to download the development pack at http://www.antuireann.org.uk/for_artists/noticeboard/.
