It is said that while almost 100 per cent of scientists now accept global warming as a fact, over 50 per cent of the American press continues to present it as debatable or even a myth - the same corporate section of the press for which it would be 'an inconvenient truth'.
With his celebrated film, "An Inconvenient Truth" (Cert. E), Al Gore has firmly moved the debate away from the doubters towards the essential discussion of such issues as the time scales involved and what is to be done.
The free showing of the film at the Gable End Theatre on Thursday, 6 September, represents an open invitation for the people of Hoy and Walls to look at the arguments and form their own views.
The film is being presented by the Northern and Western Isles Energy Efficiency Advice Centre, who ask that the audience be seated at 7.45 p.m. for an 8 p.m. start. Refreshments will follow the screening. |
