Small and Perfectly Formed: Local Festival, Known for Music and Craic, Now adds Family Day to Event.
24 August 2007

With three weeks to go “Drams in the Field”, the Glenelg Music Festival (Drams), announces its line up and for the first time a Family Day during the day on the Saturday. Over the weekend of the 14th & 15th September the festival will be held on Bernera Farm. Continuing the success of last year the community run not for profit music festival is working in partnership with the Glenelg & Arnisdale Development Trust (GADT).

True to creative direction Drams presents a mix of local, national and international musicians. From singer song writers acclaimed for their live performances, through Ceilidh bands known to get the crowd reeling, to traditionally trained musicians putting a contemporary spin on the Celtic sound. The stage plays host to award winning talent including music students from Plockton's National Centre of Excellence, RSAMD, and University of Strathclyde. Expect acoustic, lyrical, pop, folk, roots, rock, psychedelic, metal, bluegrass, americana, country, psychobilly, celtic, ambient and you’ll not be disappointed. It’s all about the music.

Friday headliners Skerryvore, play with The Gypsy Queens & a Dog Leg, Esther O’Conner, Cast Ewe Band & Subrosa. Saturday headliners The Porridge Men, play with The Incredible Fling Band, Sandra Macbeth, The Federals & Red Handed. Irish musician Brendan Hendry returns this year with friends to play over the weekend. Friday doors open 5pm, live music on stage at 6pm. Saturday doors open 6pm, live music on stage at 6.30pm.

This is the second year Drams will be held in Glen Bernera where cup marked stones and cairns identify the area as a site of gatherings since prehistoric times. Join with 500 others at Drams in keeping this tradition alive. Tickets are limited, were quick to sell out last year, and can be bought advance at a discount online from www.thebooth.com

Developing the GADT partnership has provided Drams with the capacity to fulfil a long held ambition. This year launching a day time event aimed at expanding entertainment over the weekend to all the family. The Family Day, entry by donation, runs from 11am to 5.30pm on Saturday 15th September. Including a Coffee Morning Ceilidh, with stalls, baking, competitions and local information, a crèche supplied by Direct Childcare & funded by the local Childcare Partnership, a show case celebrating young talent, inflatable fun in the field, a Big Raffle with substantial prizes to be won and closing with a kiddies disco.
