Ardross to Host Adaptation Of Famous Authors Work
31 July 2007

Fans of The Railway Children, Five Children and It and other books by E.Nesbit have a treat in store for them this summer when, on Friday August 17th at 7.30pm, Jabberwocky Theatre Company brings to Ardross Community Hall its five star production of her magical story The White Cat. Even if you haven’t yet discovered the author’s wonderful stories, this funny, moving and exciting show makes a wonderful evening out for children, young people and adults to enjoy together.

‘The White Cat’ is a show from Angus based Jabberwocky Theatre Company. An inspiring adaptation of a short story by E.Nesbit, it is a beautiful tale full of wonder, surprise and the transforming power of love, told by one actor and six finely crafted puppets. Audiences of adults and children alike are enthralled by this moving and entertaining production, saying it is quite unlike anything else they have seen before which involves puppets. The show is most inspiring for people aged 7 and over and their families. Adults will love it too - you don’t need to bring a child with you!

An old King; Three sons; Three tasks; A dark wood; A magic castle: A beautiful cat; The oldest sons are greedy and vain, the youngest honest and true. When he meets the greatest challenge of all must he destroy what he treasures most?

Generations have grown up on E.Nesbit’s writing, and children continue to discover the delight of her gripping stories and her very individual way of telling them. The White Cat is a particularly memorable tale. Neither is it new to the stage. Originally written in 17th century France by Countesse Marie Catherine D’Aulnoy, over three hundred years later the story was presented on the stage in London’s West End. E.Nesbit may well have seen it, taking some of its most extraordinary, magical and intriguing elements and making them truly her own. A hundred years on , Jabberwocky Theatre Company has lovingly used her writing in creating top quality theatre, maintaining throughout the integrity of her own particularly engaging style.

Set in the Middle Ages the show has striking set and costume design by Virginia Aspinwall of the acclaimed Angus Arts, with memorable music from David Trouton of the award winning company Wee Stories. The puppets are created by actor Alan Finlayson, an experienced performer who has toured Britain and Europe with a number of companies including The Scottish Mime Theatre. He is also a film maker and has five children. The company is supported by The Scottish Arts Council and Angus Council.

Tickets for the show cost £6 full price, £4 concession or £15 for a family ticket and can be booked in advance by telephoning 01349 880591 or e-mailing – events@ardrosshall.org
