Inchmore Gallery statement
The building is home to both an exhibiting gallery and to a working artist’s studio and workshop. Five distinct ground floor exhibiting spaces, two linked upper floor gallery areas and a fully equipped artists/printmakers studio give the venue an enviable flexibility in providing an opportunity to promote all visual art styles.
This large, versatile private gallery has a reputation of exhibiting truly contemporary and often “commercially risky” works. We offer gallery visitors an opportunity to view work from emerging and established artists. We are dedicated to expanding the reputation of the Highlands as containing Scottish artists - where we think there is a place for traditional Highland art but equally a place for not always being presented as a Highland artist - where that description, more often than not, creates a presumption of style and vocation.
The work shown at the inaugural exhibition in June 2007 was welcomed by professional observers and gallery visitors as “filling the gap in contemporary art for the north of Scotland and the Highlands”. This endorsement complements our aim for the gallery - to encourage and present truly contemporary art for public enjoyment. A full geographic range of established, quality artists were gathered for the opening of the gallery. Academic training, biographies, exhibition and commissioning information exposed the national and international reputation that these Scottish based artists have to offer.
Other recorded comments which have endorsed our gallery remit of:
Innovative – Thought Provoking – Truly Contemporary
“....an important artistic centre...” “...at last! up-to-date art shown in the highlands...” “...high quality and originality...”
The Gallery continues to fill its exhibiting calendar. Our aim is to maintain a frequency of changing works that will keep gallery visitors keen to return and also encourage the artist to use a familiarity with the gallery spaces to perhaps influence and shape their work.
We continually seek visual artists to complement our gallery style and we also welcome approaches from artists to view and discuss their work.
