Landfall of the Island Tapes at Resolis
20 June 2007

On Thursday 28th June 2007 Resolis Community Arts hosts the only mainland performance in the current tour of The Island Tapes. Premiered in January 2006 at Celtic Connections in Glasgow the show features original live music composed especially to accompany six silent films recording life on St Kilda, Harris, Skye, Orkney and Shetland and a new addition, the journey of a ship from Glasgow to New York, all filmed in the 1920's and 30's.

Alyth McCormack, one of the most exciting talents in the world of Gaelic song, and well known for her solo career as well as for her work with Shine and Sunhoney, is joined by three highly accomplished guitarists to provide the music. David Allison was asked to write the music for a series of silent black and white documentaries held by the Scottish Screen Archive and one of them, the soundtrack to "St Kilda-Britain's Loneliest Isle" was highly acclaimed and this success led to the development of the current show. Ian Melrose is considered to be one of the best Celtic based fingerpickers on the scene today and counts Davey Graham and John Renbourn among his influences. Alan Neave completes the trio of guitarists. Alan performs at many of the worlds leading musical events and has worked with many influential musicians and composers.

The show has toured extensively and played to packed venues in Glasgow, Berlin, Estonia, and recently New York where they played six concerts in various locations including Grand Central Station and Ellis Island.

Celtic Connections' Colin Hynd made the project his "Director's Choice" and the Sunday Herald picked it out as one of the ten 'must see' shows.

This is a show of the highest quality, brilliantly executed by top-class perfomers and Resolis Community arts are delighted to have the opportunity to include it in their programme. Coincidentally one of the committee members will be on St. Kilda at the time of the show. The performance starts at 8;00am on Thursday June 28th in Resolis Memorial Hall. Tickets are £11/£9 and are available on the door, although reservations are advised and can be made by calling David Gilbert on 01381 610204.
