The Aviemore Mountain Film Festival today announced it is to plan to host to Britain's highest cinema - 1245m above sea level on the summit of Cairngorm.
The specially constructed cinema, which will be set up over the weekend of the 28th and 29th April, will show a selection of the best films from the AMFF 2006, as a precursor to the 2007 programme which was launched at the beginning of April.
Famed for bringing the most extreme sports and films together for a packed four days of mountain orientated mayhem, the Aviemore Mountain Film Festival proves, once again, that it will go to any lengths to bring the best adventure films the UK has to offer to the masses.
The UK's highest cinema will be showing extreme films, depicting skiing, BASE jumping, kayaking, mountain biking and climbing, throughout the day. Refreshments will be available and admission to the cinema is absolutely free, although donations to the festival's charity partner – Disability Snowsport UK – are encouraged.
Festival Director, Dave Felce , says: "AMFF has always been about putting on a damn good event for folk who enjoy filling their lives with everything to do with the outdoors. For the past three year's we have been bringing the mountains to the cinema by showcasing some of the best and most inspirational films around, but this year we wanted to turn this concept on it's head and take the films to the mountains. We want mountaineers, walkers, climbers, skiers, even families on a day out, to stop by the cinema this weekend and watch some of last year's top films. What better way to prepare yourself for the onslaught of this year's festival?!"
This year's festival will take place from the 17th -20th May and will showcase a range of films, lectures and workshops – most of which are free! With highlights including a talk from members of the RAF Grantown 2006 Greenland expedition and spectacular shows from some of the UK's top mountain biking experts.
The weekend will culminate with the Jagermeister party - the loudest and liveliest closing party ever held by a mountain film festival – which will feature four of the best up and coming British bands – including Kid Ego, Darkwater, Curzon Circle, Sizequeen and Underbelly.
