All roads lead to Ullapool on the May weekend for the 17th Fèis Rois Inbhich (Adult Fèis Rois), where a star-studded tutor team is lined up to lead three days of classes, ceilidhs and sessions.
Application forms have been flying in to the Fèis Rois office in Dingwall from all over Scotland and from London, Ireland, Belgium, France and Holland. Gaelic language and culture is at the heart of the Fèis and learners of any ability range may apply to join in the Gaelic language, Gaelic song, Creative writing and Dualchas classes led by a team of renowned experts. Gaelic singers Rona Lightfoot and Maggie MacDonald are well known and highly respected singers based in Inverness, who have an extensive Gaelic song repertoire and they will welcome both beginners and experienced singers into their classes. Allan MacDonald of Glenuig has devised a special Gaelic culture class, The Scope of Traditional Music and Gaelic song, giving a deeper insight into the rich cultural treasure of which he has great knowledge. Allan will present his talks as illustrated recitals, and the expertise of some of the Fèis tutors will be brought in to enrich the experience.
A new Creative writing class will be introduced, led by Skye poet and writer Aonghas MacNeacail, a former very popular Writer-in-Residence in Ross and Cromarty. This class is open to Gaelic and English speakers and to song writers as well as people writing poetry, stories and drama. Gaelic language classes are sure to be very lively in the capable hands of Colm O’ Rua, a full time Gaelic teacher who is also a member of Daimh, one of the Highland’s best traditional music bands.
