An American - Scottish Re-Union at Resolis
18 April 2007

Resolis Community Arts conclude their fourth season of events on Wednesday 25th April with the unique American\Scottish combination of Bruce Molsky and Mary Ann Kennedy.

Bruce Molsky is arguably the best old time fiddle player in the world, a superb guitarist and banjo player and a powerful and moving singer. Alone or with fellow musicians he has been exploring traditional music from an astonishingly broad range of cultures over the past two decades -synthesizing and refracting them through his own evolving sensibilities to the point where the sources of his inspiration transform themselves into a sound that is uniquely his. Molsky's influences range from the Appalachian soul of Tommy Jarrell to Delta blues; from the haunting modal strains of Irish music to the rhythmically nimble music of Eastern Europe. He has toured world wide with the acclaimed Andy Irvine's Mozaik and with Fiddles on Fire in the UK and has played every Celtic Connections Festival in Glasgow since 2003. Bruce has appeared on Garrison Keillor's 'A Prairie Home Companion' radio show, the subject of director Robert Altman's final film of the same name which has recently been released.

Mary Ann Kennedy needs little introduction to highland audiences. She trained as a classical musician and majored on concert harp while researching Gaelic mouth music at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, a unique combination. She is one of a handful of singers to win both gold medals at the Mod and has won many International competitions for Celtic Harp. She is a founder member of the hugely successful band Cliar. Many will know Mary Anne for her work with Radio Scotland presenting Celtic Connections and more recently Mary Ann Kennedy's Global Gathering. "I'm discovering new stuff that's exciting all the time, and I'm able to be passionate about what I'm playing," she says. "On Celtic Connections we play everything - from the most hardcore of Scottish seann-n`os song to Puerto Rican reggaeton to brassy Balkan club grooves.”The enthusiasm I have is that of a musician responding to other musicians work."

Both of these musicians and singers epitomize the incredible energy that is coursing through the veins of 'traditional' music at the moment. They are firmly rooted in their own traditions, but their enthusiasm and influences are literally boundless embracing World Music in all it's amazing variety.

It's a real treat to welcome Mary Ann and Bruce to Resolis on Wednesday April 25 at 8pm.

Tickets are priced £8 and £7 (concession) from David Gilbert 01381 610204 or Kenny Taylor 01349 877625.
