AN EDEN COURT IN EXILE EVENT COMMUNICADO THEATRE COMPANY (A CO-PRODUCTION WITH PERTH THEATRE) FERGUS LAMONT BY ROBIN JENKINS ADAPTED BY GERRY MULGREW FRIDAY 20 APRIL 8.00PM A CO-PROMOTION AT STRATHPEFFER PAVILION
The award winning Communicado Theatre Company are visiting Strathpeffer Pavilion with a witty and entertaining adaptation of one of Scotland’s finest novels: Robin Jenkins' satire, Fergus Lamont.
Beginning at the turn of the twentieth century, and covering over forty years until the Second World War, the story follows the life of Fergus, born in fictional working class Gantock in the west of Scotland.
Believing himself to be the illegitimate son of an aristocrat, he proceeds to invent a new identity for himself, and sets off into, first, the officer corps during the First World War, and thenceforth into a life of deception among the Scottish moneyed and landed classes.
His hilarious and, often painful journey to the top and back to the bottom again is chronicled with forensic skill and wit as Fergus Lamont finally comes to understand himself and his country.
The adaptation was written by Gerry Mulgrew, Artistic Director Communicado for over twenty years. His works of adaptation / re-telling for the company include The House with the Green Shutters, The Legend of St Julian, Tall Tales, Tales from the Arabian Nights, Jock Tamson's Bairns (with Liz Lochhead) and Zlata's Diary.
