Screen Machine 2 brings a taste of China to Ullapool
26 March 2007

As part of the UK-wide Cinema China festival, Screen Machine 2 is delighted to be hosting a special preview screening of Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles, the latest film by Zhang Yimou (Raise the Red Lantern, Hero, House of Flying Daggers), in Ullapool on Saturday 14th April 2007.

This will be the fifth ever showing of the film in the UK, following screenings in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford and Dundee. After Ullapool, the film will go on to tour Cardiff, Bristol, London and Cambridge.

In this beautiful and intimate film, a Japanese fisherman, trying to repair a relationship with his dying son, journeys to southeast China to film a village opera singer whom his son admires. Zhang Yimou shows us China through the eyes of a tourist in a series of breathtaking and colourful vistas. Takakura Ken, the Clint Eastwood of Japan, plays the lead.

The screening will be introduced by Dr Dorota Ostrowska of University of Edinburgh, and co-Artistic Director of Cinema China.

Screening in 16 cities across the UK and Ireland, Cinema China, the UK’s biggest ever festival of Chinese film, is the result of a partnership between the University of Edinburgh, Confucius Institute, Edinburgh Filmhouse, Scottish Screen, The Scottish Executive, Beijing Film Academy and Edinburgh International Film Festival (www.cinemachina.org.uk ).

Many thanks to Axiom Films for this special preview screening.
