Michael Marra concert at Universal Hall
26 March 2007

Widely acclaimed as one of Scotland's most talented and original songwriters and performers, MICHAEL MARRA formed his first band, Hen's Teeth, whose line up included Dougie McLean, as far back as 1971. Since then he has been a solo performer and worked regularly in theatre, film and TV. Lyrically rooted in Scotland, its culture, history and literature, Michael cannot be pigeoned-holed with a "folkie" image; his musical palette is too varied for that.

Over the last 12 months Michael has continued to tour extensively. Burra to Burton on Trent, Shetland to Sidmouth. Washington, Tyne and Wear to Washington DC where he played a sellout gig at the prestigous Smithsonian Institute with fellow Scot and Poet, Liz Lochhead.

Michael has appeared in a couple of theatrical productions in the past yaer. " The Ballroom of Romance" at Dundee Rep with the Dundee Community Theatre Group and the National Theatre of Scotland's launch production of Home at 48 Logie Place, Aberdeen in which Michael gave an emotionally charged performance in his role of a retired trawlerman home from the sea only to realise that the sea was his home. The piece was written by Rona Munro and directed by Alison Peebles. Alison also played opposite Michael in STV's second series of the award winning "High Times".

"To Dundonians, he's the troubador poet who has sculpted from the rhythms and accents of their city a songbook so comprehensive it should be required listening for anyone venturing over the Tay Bridge.” Sunday Herald
