Sealladh is the overarching banner for the 2007 exhibitions programme at An Tuireann Arts Centre and March 3rd sees the launch of Sealladh 2. Running from then until 14th April will be the first showing of the filmed performance of An Dealbh Mor and a final chance to see the sketch books created by the children. In Gallery 1 and back by popular demand, we have the Annual Open.

An Dealbh Mor, the Big Picture, was a visual art and performance project run by Lasair Ealain, Blaze of Art, in collaboration with four artists involving Bun Sgoil Shleite (Sleat Primary)pupils, celebrating the landscape in South Skye. On show at An Tuireann are the sketch books which show the children’s first drawings of the landscape from observation. These initial sketches led to the final 9m by 14m painting upon which the children performed the music and dance that they had also created. The film of their performance will be on continual loop in gallery 2 and will be premiered at 4pm on Saturday 3rd March.

In Gallery 1 we have the return of the Annual Open and this year it has reverted back to its original format – any materials, any size. The An Tuireann Open is one of the calendar highlights and we believe that this year’s show will be even more impressive than the fantastic 2005 show. In this the Highland Year of Culture it is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring amateur artists to showcase their work. The launch of the exhibition will be at 7pm on March 3rd and all are welcome to support these local artists over a glass of wine and some nibbles.

Following on from the annual open launch we have the Ceilidh Spot at 8pm; an event which takes the Ceilidh back to its original format. This month we invite you to bring along your favourite book and tell us as much or as little as you would like about it. All over a wee dram or two.

Finally, don’t forget our AGM which is right slap in the middle of all these events at 5.30pm.
